I went to the London MCM Comic Con a few weeks ago and because I didn't have the funds or enough forward planning to do any actual cosplay, I decided to do some themed outfits instead, you know, put some kind of effort in! For Saturday I decided on a white deer theme, and Sunday (which is coming in another post) I went for a black dragon theme.
So for my white deer theme I went for a floaty, ethereal look, which I obviously couldn't have completed without Hysteria Machine's amazing antlers! I ordered them very last minute and they still arrived right on time! I was so happy! I also took this weekend as an opportunity to try out some shironuri make up, inspired by Minori (look her up! Her make up is pure art!). I only did half a white face because I didn't know how it would fair in a hot room for lots of hours. I also had a limited amount of time; there was a lot of extra detail I would have liked to have added but my friends grew impatient so I had to keep it limited. I also need practise applying lashes, because I'm really bad at it! And find a white powder to set my face paint, because I feel like talcum powder is slightly yellow and probably was the wrong thing to use. All in all, I learnt many a thing!

Face of the Day ~ champagne supernova.

Oh my! A face of the day? A face of the day!? When was the last time I did one of these?? (the answer is: ages). But just as I was running out of the door on New Year's Eve (about half an hour late...or more) I took a couple of quick snaps. I thought I would pop this up whilst I take a break from my dissertation writing (6000 words, here I come)! The make up was a little bit rushed because as ever, I am a terrible judge of timing. Perhaps not the best lighting or composition either, in fact we could say these were both pretty sub-optimal. Either way! I quite like the art deco-esque sun thing under my eye, and I am increasingly becoming a fan of fuchsia pink as a colour, something about it is really refreshing to my eyes. And I'm enjoying decorating my décolletage as well - this time using star stencils and glitter.
I should really take more photos at the moment, especially since I'm doing way more make up looks recently. For a sampling of that, take a look at my Instagram (@L_Figment)! More posts coming soon, including my Christmas/January sales haul!
If any of you guys did anything fancy for New Year's, show me!

Review & Swatches ~ My Beauty Addiction Lipsticks

I found out about My Beauty Addiction when I was browsing Etsy for exciting lipsticks (when am I not?). I really liked some of their colours but as is often the case didn't want to buy a full size and find out the pigmentation was rubbish or I didn't like the formula or something. Luckily they recently introduced sample sizes, where you can choose any three colours for £2.73 which I think is super reasonable, even with postage and packing. I will probably (definitely) be ordering a few more, especially since they've now introduced some more interesting shades.

Packaging: each sample comes in a sweet little clamshell with plenty of product, which is easily accessed with a finger tip or lip brush. The label simply gives the name of the product (but not the company, which is kind of odd) and the quantity of product (0.16oz).

Price: £2.73 ($4.00) for three samples, or £5.12 ($7.50) for one full sized, bullet lipstick. The sample price is amazing considering how much product you get, and the full size price is also very impressive!

Formula: I found the pigmentation varied a little between colours. Emerald was definitely the best and would totally recommend it as a dupe of Lime Crime's Serpentina, it's slightly brighter but the general deeper metallic green theme is the same. I applied each lipstick with a combination of finger and lip brush. As a general idea, I wore Emerald for three hours in which I experienced no fade, then I ate some pizza and after that there was fade but it wasn't that bad, so I'm pretty impressed. Paranormal and Sapphire performed slightly less well.

A bright, metallic true purple. Not too pink, not too blue.

Let me know which is your favourite shade! Ever tried My Beauty Addiction products before? Would love to hear about your experience.

Haul Post ~ H&M, New Look and Collection!

So pleased with my recent purchases, not least because it barely cost me anything; the New Look stuff was paid for by a voucher, the make up was paid for with Boots and Superdrug points, so all I paid for was the H&M stuff! Huzzah! Currently New Look is kind of disappointing, but I am so loving H&M! All of this was bought during one glorious shopping trip with my mother, who is good at encouraging me to spend money.

It's just super cute and I need more red in my wardrobe!

H&M Oversized T-Shirt ~ £6.99
Simple and easy, and isn't liable to slip off my shoulder or fall forward - two things I've been finding irritating about some of my tops.

H&M Grey Cut Out Mesh Dress ~ £17.99
I just couldn't resist - it's such an awesome, interesting cut, and mesh is so hot right now. Not sure how much I like the grey, but I can always dye it or something.

Collection Work The Colour Eyeshadow Pencil in Vanilla Sky ~ £3.19
Starting to get into coloured liquid eyeliners and I liked how this one was obviously not black - some of the alternative colours are a little dark for me, but this one is lovely. I was thinking the eye pencil might make a nice primer for my matte eyeshadows - we'll see if my theory is correct

(not pictured) B. Radiant BB Under Eye Concealer in Light ~ £5.32 (usually £7.99)
Whilst looking for a new concealer, I compared all the lightest shades in Superdrug and this came up as the palest, so I thought I would grab it whilst it was reduced.

That's it for my recent purchases. My birthday's coming up soon (in four days - on the 14th) so maybe I'll treat myself to something afterwards, we'll see!

News ~ New Illamasqua Lipsticks!

I don't know if this is worth it's own post but I'm so excited I thought I would share! From new Illamasqua's Paranormal collection comes two new purple shades of lipsticks. Kontrol was already number one on my make up wishlist and now there are two more, both matte finishes, to contend for the top spot. Meet ESP and Posture:

Super bright, unlike Kontrol, and a lot more of a pink base than the blue of Kontrol. It makes me think of Beauty Addiction's own Stargazer lipstick, although that is metallic. It's such a gorgeous, unique shade!

This reminds me a lot of Chinchilla from Lime Crime, just a beautiful dusty lilac with a hint of grey. Again, really unique - I can't decide if I like this more than ESP, I think I might.

Both shades are £16.50, is it me or are Illamasqua lipsticks getting more expensive? Either way, let me know which is your favourite, and whether you're as excited as I am!

Blue Lipstick Review ~ Part 1: darker shades.

L-R: Stargazer in105, Portland Black Lipstick Company in Indigo Bridge, Sleek Pout Paint in Peek-a-Bloo, Illamasqua in Disciple

Much like my purple lipstick posts, this feature will take up three posts; two reviewing a total of nine (hopefully!) blue lipsticks with swatches and the last will be a comprehensive collection of blue lipsticks. It was a very fruitful search! I found a lot more blue than purple which is kind of surprising. As always the search is for a super pigmented, long lasting but affordable lipstick.
So in this post I've grouped the midnight and navy blues as well as two brighter ones.

An opaque, matte, deep navy.

Price: £16
By far the most expensive of all the lipsticks I am reviewing. I've had Disciple for a while and used it plenty of times. The formula can be a little dry (so application is a little 'draggy') but I find breathing on it to get it warmer helps a lot, but in exchange it lasts well, at least two hours plus, without showing much wear. This swatch doesn't quite do it justice, it's usually not as patchy - my previous one is a better representation.

An opaque metallic navy blue.
portland black lipstick company PBLC lipstick indigo bridge swatch metallic dark blue navy lipstick
Price: £6.89 ($10.00)
First off, this is a gorgeous colour, like a metallic version of Disciple. Second, really great formula, long lasting without being drying as well as mega pigmented with no patchiness  Third, duration is so impressive. 3+ hours, including drinking and eating chocolate. I cannot recommend this enough; both an excellent colour and an excellent product.

A buildable, metallic middle blue.

Price: £3.50
I was a little disappointed by this one. The colour itself was really lovely which is why it is so annoying that formula isn't better. The consistency was very grippy (a lot worse than Disciple in every way), which meant having to really drag it across my lips to get any colour - this improved once it had warmed up a bit but on my lips it felt waxy. I definitely could not rub my lips together successfully, if I tried the product would just shift. Application was very patchy and it smelt like cheap cosmetics. Like with most Stargazer lipsticks the colour was buildable, this is as opaque as I could get it. I wore this for a couple of hours and find it faded ungracefully within an hour or so as well as migrating onto my teeth.

An opaque, bright blue.
sleek make up peek-a-bloo peek a bloo lipstick liquid pout paint swatch blue lipstick
Price: £4.99
This is the only high street brand blue lipstick product I could find, it comes in the form of a liquid lipstick, much like OCC's lip tars. It has an interesting smell that is quite sweet, and you only need to apply the tiniest amount to your lips and then spread with a lip brush. I found application using a brush really easy, the formula was light and easy to spread although felt slightly greasy. I wore it for about two hours and found that in that time it started to bleed into the crevices of my skin beyond my lip line, which is never a good look. It had also faded a little even though I had done nothing - I'd barely spoken.

That's it for part 1! In part 2 I will be looking at five more blue lipsticks, including Portland Black Lipstick Company's Difficult Island, Stargazer's 104, My Beauty Addiction's Sapphire and Myulinda's Kool. I will also be deciding and revealing which of the lipsticks reviewed is my favourite. Also, let me know if you prefer the format/photos I used in this post, or if the older style is better.

A Comprehensive Collection of Purple Lipsticks.

Plum, lilac, lavender, aubergine, indigo, violet, royal purple.
There are a lot of purple lipsticks out there and I am particularly fond of all of them. Following my reviews of a few pastel (including Lime Crime's Chinchilla, Portland Black Lipstick's The Purple Cloud, Stargazer's Glitter Violet and CeeYourself Cosmetics' Unicorn) and dark purple lipsticks (including Rimmel's Kate Collection 04, Revlon's Va Va Violet, Stargazer's 133, CeeYourself Cosmetics' Gothica and Portland Black Lipstick Company's Artificial Amethyst) I thought I would include as many swatches as I could find as well as any links that haven't been swatched. For some of the shades I did find swatches but I didn't think they were good enough to really represent the lipstick and also I ignored lipsticks I didn't think were purple enough (e.g. too blue, too pink or too red, such as Barry M's palest lavender which was pretty sheer and quite pink). Also, eventually this will go out of date, already Lime Crime's Kaleidoscope is discontinued and so are a few of the Mac shades, but I trust ebay won't let you down if you're desperate.
