Galaxy Cascade ~ freshly dyed hair.

Dyes used: La Riche Directions -Midnight Blue
La Riche Directions - Plum
Renbow Color Crazy - Fire
Renbow Color Crazy - Cyclamen

Finally! I've finally re-dyed my hair! I am so happy.
Thanks to a two day stay in with BBF1 & BBF2. The plan was to do a dip dye gradient from dark blue to purple to lilac and maybe do the same with my fringe but that plan changed slightly.
It actually took much longer than expected - this was the first time we had bleached over black box dyed hair and it turns out it's a lot harder than just bleaching natural hair. On the first day we bleached it and the next day we went out and bought some colour stripper, then used that and did two more bleaches and it still wasn't light enough for going blue (because blue + orange = brown). On the last day BBF1 spent literally 12 hours working on my hair further, including colour striping and bleaching it again. We then decided to do some strand tests because I had thought if it wasn't light enough for blue and purple then I'd just dye it pink and red since I had some of that lying around (the pros of always dying hair various colours - there's always something kicking about). The result of the strand test just made me want both, so that's kind of what we did: mainly a blue to indigo to purple gradient, which also turned out the have some turquoise as well, and then a strand of red to pink! It's like a dysfunctional rainbow!
BFF1 said it looked like galaxy hair and that pretty much made my life - as did she, by the end of it we were both worn down and delirious but it was totally worth! A lot more subtle that my usual choices but I think it looks amazing. (Excuse my pretty gormless face in these photos, it was just one of those days)
If you want to see previous colours (including purple and turquoise) go heeerree.

So, what do you think? Anyone else dyed their hair recently? Let me know!

Nail of the Day + Hair Updates

Nail Of The Day.
Straight out, I absolutely love this colour. It is so gorgeous! My boyfriend and I had our own little christmas the other day and this was one of my presents from him. What's great is that I wouldn't have chosen this colour myself but once it was on my nails I was so pleased, I seriously couldn't (and still can't) stop staring at it.
It's Rimmel's Green With Envy (819), which is an odd name since it really isn't that green, I'd personally give it a more 'Mermaid's Tear' sort of name, because it's actually a really lovely teal colour. It's also part of their "60 Seconds" range which meant even though I needed 3 coats it took no time at all.
All in all, I am unexpectedly in love with this colour.
Purple Hair, Continued.
This part is in answer to interest some people expressed in how well my hair dye fades. I know a lot of people worry about this sort of thing; when it comes to dying hair un-natural colours and how quickly it fades and needs renewing.
For a proper reminder look here, which has photos of my hair the day after I dyed it purple (Directions - Plum).
It's been a month since I dyed it and in that time I washed it about 6 times (with lots of dry shampoo), which I know to people who don't dye their hair is just horrendous but to those of you who do dye you know it's pretty much the norm. As you can see the colour has only just started fading, which is amazing. The first photo of the post is also a month's worth of fade.
You might have noticed my roots are a little odd looking (sort of fushia), this has nothing to do with the dye and every thing to do with my roots not being as bleached as the rest of my hair.
If you have any more questions on hair dying feel free to ask, I'm thinking about doing some form of hair dye review/FAQ post possibly in the future and maybe show some of my previous colours (pink, red, turquoise...) Tell me what you think!

Here's just a quick comparison between when it was first dyed to a month later.

Stained Purple ~ freshly dyed hair.

{Purple washes over me
Seeping through my open seams
I'm stained all over.}
- Skin, Purple

Finally! I've redyed my hair. The roots were getting ridiculous and my previous colour was well and truely faded. After about 6 hours of re-bleaching and dying this is the glorious result. Obviously it wouldn't have turned out nearly as well as it has if it hadn't been for the aid of Nic, one of my super best friends. I am so pleased with the result! It's such a gorgeous rich colour and varies in shade in different lights. So far I've noticed under artifical light it looks bluer and in the sun some reddy-purple tones comes out, and just generally there are loads of subtle differences in colour.

To get this colour we used a mixture of mainly Directions in Plum and added a bit of Rusk Scream in Purple Burst that I had left over from a previous partially purple look I had. I've never used Directions before but I've heard good things so I thought I'd try it out.

I love the contrast of the green of the grass and my hair.
The boyfriend did a good job of avoiding any photos where the skin on my ears or neck is very clear since they're currently both tinted purple. I'm never very careful when I dye my hair so I generally end up with odd coloured skin for a few days as well. My pillows are slowly going purple as well, since not all the dye washes out after the first wash.

When we went outside to do some photos one of my cats, Nuage (snow in french) decided she wanted to be involved as well. I think she completely steals this shot. So unfair!

And on the super plus side, my nails match my hair at the moment!
Also, I thought I'd mention that if you're looking for a good, cheap supplier for Directions (as well as Manic Panic and Crazy Color I would highly recommend this website.
